REVIEW: A Court of Frost & Starlight by Sarah J. Maas

READ THIS IF:

  • The chapter from HP & The Order of the Phoenix where Neville’s mom gives him gum wrappers still lives rent free in your head
  • You’ve always wanted a “1/2” installment between books where you could just see your favorite characters live life in between wars/a$$ kicking

MY THOUGHTS:
I’m convinced this is the most controversial installment in ACOTAR.

You either love it or hate it.

After a friend told me ACOFAS was more of a book “3.5” than book 4 in the series I was able to enjoy it for what it is: character development and stage setting for the next book. Now, in full honesty: If I was reading these as they were released and I had waited a year or more for this book, I might feel differently. However, the compassion in this novel is its strength. I am forever scarred/touched from the moment in HP & The Order of The Phoenix when Neville visits his parents in the hospital (SHAME ON YOU DAVID YATES FOR NOT PUTTING THIS IN THE MOVIE!), and whole portions of this book felt just like that to me. The weaver. The ending.

“I have to create, or it was all for nothing.

I have to create, or I will crumple up with dispair and never leave my bed. I have to create because I have no other way of voicing this.” Her hand rested on her heart. “It is hard, and it hurts, but if I were to stop, if I were to let this loom or the spindle go silent – then there would be no Hope shinging in the Void.”
