READ THIS IF:
– You love a good ‘epic series of challenges’ trope.
– You root for the underdog.
MY THOUGHTS:
I had to give myself a few days after finishing this book to process my emotions.
To put it simplest:
JUST. READ. THIS. BOOK.
Abandon all responsibilities.
Throw caution to the wind.
The Prison Healer knocked me off my feet in the best possible way. I went in with zero expectations. Zero knowledge. That’s what I wish for you, too.
If you read this, go into it blind.
That being said, this review is purposefully vague and spoiler-free.
Lynette Noni’s writing is perfection. Her storytelling and world-building is masterful in a similar air to Sarah J. Maas and JK Rowling. Her characters are VIVID. Naari and Tipp practically jumped off the page and quickly became characters I’d defend to the death. I haven’t wanted to hug fictional characters so hard since Professor Snape. I could picture each character so well. Even characters whose actual physical appearance are barely described (such as The Butcher) came alive in how Noni makes you FEEL about them.
I love everything about this book. That is exactly why I took time to process it, because I don’t say that lightly. I rarely ever buy physical copies of books that I haven’t already read and loved (because, you know: INFLATION). However, I sped through The Prison Healer and, with 50 pgs left in the book, I brazenly bought physical copies of the next 2. TAKE MY MONEY.
Lynette Noni, thank you for this absolute gem of a book. It’s going to live rent-free in my mind indefinitely.
